Olympics week began on Friday, 5th of March with the spirit raising Opening Ceremony, which took place over the course of two hours. It was the perfect start to kick off the upcoming Olympics Week. With 40 points on the line, each house was given one task: Create a house cheer. At first glance, this task doesn’t look very easy, does it? However difficult it was, our House Captains and Deputy House Captains collaborated with all the house members and were able to pull it off. The houses and their captains had to make up a house cheer, teach it to the entire house, and practice it for perfect coordination; all within 60 minutes. As a student myself, the ceremony was only this successful due to the coordination between the house captains and the willingness of the house members to learn the words.
Listening to the house cheers was a very thrilling experience for everyone. With almost half of the entire student body seated on the verdant grass under the glistening sun with sweat drops trickling down their faces, everyone cheered for their houses, screaming out the words of their house cheer with all the energy they could muster. Each house came up with a cheer that was unique in its own way, making the event a great success.
After an exasperating twenty minutes of cheering, the council came up with the final winning order - Jupiter, Neptune, Mars, and Venus. Ultimately, no matter which house won the cheer competition, this whole opening ceremony was truly a team effort, and was the perfect start to an exciting, fun-filled week.
