Many of you may have seen them in action last Friday at lunchtime when they were preparing boxes and running to various classrooms to put in their first boxes for their very first initiative this year - the Paper Drive which will be in full swing this week- so make sure to bring in paper and put them into the various boxes spread throughout the school campus saying “Green Team” on them. This paper drive aims at collecting paper year round which will be sent to an organization called ITC which provides a certain amount of funds for the exact weight of all the paper that has been received by them.
What will they be doing with this money though? Well, the answer we have received is a very promising prospect for all of us at school- they aim to purchase homeroom plants for every class at school. This will help clear air pollution in a small way and benefit our school’s air quality within the classroom. Also, it is quite educational and engaging to watch a plant grow and blossom, especially as a learning experience for younger students at school.
Aside from the paper drive, there are many other initiatives which the members have been planning. Their ideas are quite unique and seem to never end-and in their interactions with the volunteers that spread through the MYP and DP grades, they have found even more prospects which they can act upon. After this paper drive, they are looking at holding initiatives for plastics, shoes, clothes, stationary, and many more possibilities for us to look forward to.
This team of students is definitely doing a lot to try to make our school a better place- and supporting their initiatives will benefit us in many ways as well. I hope all of you look forward to their new drives and activities that they have in store and remember to Go Green!
