The Annual Day, Sreenidhi’s most awaited festivity of the year, looked a little different this year due to the pandemic. The Annual Day is undoubtedly the most vital event in the Sreenidhi school year, with multiple members of the Sreenidhi community working on producing a quality show for the audience. Every year, the drama, music, arts and dance students rigorously work to produce a live play in front of hundreds of people, but in this tragedy-stricken year, the concept of a live play ceased to exist.
Subsequent to a much contemplated decision, our Student Council and Arts Department agreed to produce a movie for the Annual Day instead of the usual live play. With the help of our script writer Reet Kaur, the Director Chris Vezier, the Producer Pranathi Kolla, the backstage crew and the cast, UTOPIA 2020 came into existence.
Sreenidhi’s very own version of the classic live performance based Annual Day this year proved to be a great success, garnering over a 100 viewers during the UTOPIA Movie live stream and over 4 thousand views to date.
The movie’s producer, Pranathi Kolla, said that “Utopia 2020-21 was an extremely novel experience for absolutely everyone involved. From scriptwriting to rehearsal to filming and editing- we had to learn a whole new set of skills. Overall though, the outcome was something that we were all proud of. It was great to see how footage we filmed on a plain green screen could be transformed into bright, colorful and unique settings through the process of editing. Though it was extremely time consuming, the final product was enjoyable for everyone to watch, and highly accessible to the school community as well.”
Moving on, The UTOPIA background crew has come out with multiple updates in regards to the play, giving the Sreenidhi Community a plethora of content to look forward to. To begin with, on the “SIS Annual day and Events” YouTube channel, two extended clips from the movie were posted - the adorable EYP kids dancing to Baby Shark and a Valentines Day extended version.
Pranathi also said, “Now, we're continuing to work on editing together the rest of the footage to come up with an extended version of the film.” We hope you’re just as excited as we are for the extended version of Utopia!
