It’s once again the most dreaded time of the year: exam season. With most of us either surviving off of coffee-filled oceans or cramming all of the topics in a last-minute attempt to study, nerves are all over the place right now! But, with everything that we have to revise, one aspect always seems to be forgotten: our mental health. Exam season is defined by the amount of stress it provides, which tends to throw most students into an abyss of hopelessness. But, this time around, learn to take care of yourself! In fact, with a few simple yet effective methods, taking care of your mental health during exam season will be a breeze.
Firstly, study with your friends! Studying together enables you to gather multiple perspectives on your coursework and is simply great fun. Plus, it helps you to remember that no matter how helpless you feel, you’re never alone on the twisted road to exam day. As Troy Bolton so famously said, “we’re all in this together!”
Moreover, always remember to surround yourself with positive vibes. Whether it’s glancing at the never-ending stream of inspirational quotes on social media or gaping at the sheer adorableness of your favourite cat videos, good vibes can be found everywhere! The world is brimming with reservoirs of positivity - and it’s essential to tap into them during exam season.
Additionally, don’t forget to take constant breaks! During these breaks, take some time off to indulge in an activity that you enjoy. Light your favourite scented candle, go on a long walk (don’t forget your mask!), watch the next episode of your favourite Netflix show - do whatever your heart yearns for!
Another vital aspect is preserving your sanity - or, synonymously, getting a good night’s sleep. Pulling all-nighters is a huge mistake - instead, get the right amount of sleep to improve memory consolidation. If you plan on surviving off of an hour of sleep, all you’ll be left with is a zombie inside the body you call your own!
Lastly, know your worth! Everybody gets bad grades once in a while: remember that you are not defined by a number on a scale of 1 to 8. Be kind to yourself: one bad remark is not the end of the world. Remember, you are not your grade. Take a deep breath and face your exams head-on!
