Especially with the threat of the new coronavirus, finding plausible CAS or service activities is not an easy task. If you think being confined to the walls of your house is hard in itself, try doing service within them! Really, it’s every IB student’s biggest nightmare. But, even with these circumstances, there are still a multitude of alternatives that can be implemented. To do so, quoting Albus Dumbledore, “One must only remember to turn on the light.”
To begin with the creativity element of CAS, one of the simplest methods is starting a blog. Whether it’s documenting your very own quarantine experience or even posting your artwork, a blog can take on a variety of forms. Another very simple activity is to DIY! Scrapbooking, knitting, and origami are a few DIY activities that are extremely enjoyable, while fetching you some much needed CAS credit. Making a YouTube channel is another interesting choice. You can create videos of you whipping up some sweet treats, or even analysing your favourite sporting event!
Moving on to the activity segment— work out! Yoga, zumba, and cycling are some entertaining activities that you can do at home or in your neighborhood. You can always record your routines and guide your friends/family to become healthier as well!
Furthermore, hosting online classes using your preferred platform is another very exciting CAS activity. Whether it’s pilates with your friends or intense full-body workouts, online workout classes are both incredibly amusing and effective.
Lastly, for the service element, one of the most effective activities- especially during the outbreak- is online tutoring! Even simple painting or quilling classes can count as service! Additionally, helping out the elderly in your neighborhood is an extremely impressive activity. Cooking them meals or going on grocery runs are two straightforward yet satisfactory ideas.
With a plethora of activities to indulge in, CAS or service at home may not be as bad as we initially thought it to be. Even in unprecedented times like these, there are always solutions that can be implemented to make them a little more bearable. And who knows- maybe CAS at home may actually turn out to be enjoyable!
Welcome to the Student Features segment of the Sreenidhian- a blog where we highlight student work and showcase their ideas about a vast variety of topics, providing them with a platform for expression.
All of the opinions and information that is expressed in this section is not endorsed by Sreenidhi or the Sreenidhian- it is the work of the students themselves.
We hope you enjoy!
